History of Educational Technology

There is no written evidence which can tell us exactly who has coined the phrase educational technology. Different educationists, scientists and philosophers at different time intervals have put forwarded different definitions of Educational Technology. Educational technology is a multifaceted and integrated process involving people, procedure, ideas, devices, and organization, where technology from different fields of science is borrowed as per the need and requirement of education for implementing, evaluating, and managing solutions to those problems involved in all aspects of human learning.

Educational technology, broadly speaking, has passed through five stages.

The first stage of educational technology is coupled with the use of aids like charts, maps, symbols, models, specimens and concrete materials. The term educational technology was used as synonyms to audio-visual aids.

The second stage of educational technology is associated with the ‘electronic revolution’ with the introduction and establishment of sophisticated hardware and software. Use of various audio-visual aids like projector, magic lanterns, tape-recorder, radio and television brought a revolutionary change in the educational scenario. Accordingly, educational technology concept was taken in terms of these sophisticated instruments and equipments for effective presentation of instructional materials.

The third stage of educational technology is linked with the development of mass media which in turn led to ‘communication revolution’ for instructional purposes. Computer-assisted Instruction (CAI) used for education since 1950s also became popular during this era.

The fourth stage of educational technology is discernible by the individualized process of instruction. The invention of programmed learning and programmed instruction provided a new dimension to educational technology. A system of self-learning based on self-instructional materials and teaching machines emerged.

The latest concept of educational technology is influenced by the concept of system engineering or system approach which focuses on language laboratories, teaching machines, programmed instruction, multimedia technologies and the use of the computer in instruction. According to it, educational technology is a systematic way of designing, carrying out and evaluating the total process of teaching and learning in terms of specific objectives based on research.

Educational technology during the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age
Educational technology, despite the uncertainty of the origin of the term, can be traced back to the time of the three-age system periodization of human prehistory; namely the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age.

Effect of Technology on Our Lives

Technology is an improved route to an unimproved target. Technology is associated with innovation. It involves the transformation of ideas into something useful. Innovation is just not limited to creative people and organizations, but also involves the availability of technological and scientific talent. Technology and innovation are synergistic. Technology has definitely changed our lives and for the better.

Looking back in time, we realize how much our lives have changed due to the fruits of technology. It has provided us with freedom and less consumption of time and resources. Pointing out a particular technology for the drastic changes in one’s life is simply not possible. A nation’s economic growth can be measured according to the level of technology. This is because a number of factors are responsible for affecting an individual’s life style. The most important factor for deciding the working of a particular technology is the presence of competition. One kind of technology seems beneficial only until a technological advancement does not occur.

The most effective piece of technology is the mobile phone, and now a days being equivalent to a civilization. Due to technological changes, the dependency upon technology has increased many folds. Some advancement occurs at such a pace that they become self-defeating. The ability to convert carbon dioxide into fuel energy is a breakthrough process and once well established in would change our dependency on nonrenewable and limited sources.

With time, the use of internet is rising rapidly. The World Wide Web literally connects over 700 million people round the globe. The state-of-the-art technology has improved our means of communication as well as our educational standards. Due to the innovations in technology, an individual can gain knowledge about any topic at any place and at any point of time in his/her life. It has allowed the ease of availability of education. It has also improvised upon ways to fulfill our needs and to meet our expectations. Innovations in today’s tech-world can help us to solve urgent problems.

The revolution in technology has given rise to chat rooms, discussion rooms, personalized web pages and online databases. The IT sector has completely changed the outlook of human communication with e-mails, video conferencing and instant messaging. With the advent of technology, people are building bridges to decrease the distances in their mind. One basic drawback that has taken place is that people are becoming lethargic due to high trends in technology. It is shortening our ability to pay attention. Robotics, automation and computerization are on the go for changing our lives. Implementation of robotics will give higher efficiency and cheaper labor, thereby increasing unemployment rate.

Information Technology in Your Business or Workplace – Why You Should Learn to Use It

The technology in our personal lives are all too common mobile phones, watches us, desktop computers and the thermostat in your home. For anyone to say they stay away from the use of technology is like trying to remain in the stone age while the changes take place in the vicinity. The workplace is where you can be on the cutting edge of these changes and new technologies. New small businesses started each year. Small business owners who know what is available (in technology) and how to use it can make a difference in your sales or your competitor getting your customers to get lost.

You can not escape or avoid the use or the use of technology. If you do not use them personally to have cell phones or personal computers, the technology certainly touched and connected with your daily activities. I’m not talking about surveillance or security measures, even though we meet everyday. You walk into a bank, the technology used to identify you as the account holder, and security cameras to monitor and record the fact that you are in the bank.

Many are reluctant to change, for those who hesitate, you will more than likely miss how technology is changing the way we communicate and how it changed how business is conducted. With tight deadlines and long meetings, the technology can help streamline your processes, help you realize the customer needs and help you maximize your time. When new technology hits the market, the technician will often rush to be first with the latest and greatest, knows how to get the maximum use of these products is another story. Let’s take for example a smart phone, you are a business owner and your cell phone just to make calls, you do not maximize the use of your smart phone. With the ability to cash a check and secure credit card process, a feature like this can help business owners improve cash flow is small, if your smart phone more than a social networking device, you can also use social networks to make the taps on the advertising campaign.

The possibilities are only limited by your imagination and knowledge about the function of the technology you use. Being a tech savvy person on the job can mean job security in an environment when other shuns new technology. When a person is not felt necessary for a piece of technology, they have also lost the opportunity to learn valuable information about how the device functions, can improve their businesses, processes them in their place of work or their personal lives.

Chain Letters, A Great Idea That Doesn’t Work! Why? Are They Legal?

There are two main reasons that chain letters don’t work.

Lets tackle the legality issue first:

It is against the US Postal regulations to send money through the mail for the promise of more money. The post office considers these types of offers a “lottery”, which is illegal through the mail. If you are not buying a product or service that would normally not sell on its own if there were no income opportunity attached to it, chances are it’s illegal.

This doesn’t stop some people from trying it though.

The real issue is that it doesn’t work.

Why?

First, Let me ask you an important question: When you first saw one of these letters and got excited about it, what was the very next thought that came to mind?

Did you think, “Why bother paying the five people on the list? How are they going to know?”

Or, did you take another step and eliminate them entirely and replace the five names with people you know personally (or people you made up)?

This is the number one reason chain letters do not work. Most people think along these lines and will not send funds to everyone on the list like they are supposed to. So you will mail out 100 or 500 letters, and 15 people may actually get excited about it and actually mail the letters out, but everyone on the list is cheated of their rightfully earned referral fees.

Secondly, There are the mailing lists:

When most people read chain letters, there is also a recommended list source in the letter who will sell in small quantities. Unfortunately, these are not premium names of people who have recently spent money on an income opportunity program. More than likely, they are old recycled names that the company has their hands on and more than likely as well, the list company advertised may have been the ones to start the chain letter to build their own list business!

Chain letters, however are a really great way to generate income,
that is if there wasn’t the legality issue, and the cheating.
100% of the referral fees go to the referrers.

What if I told you, that there is a company out there, that has combined this age old concept of the chain letter, with todays technology and the internet, and made it 100% cheat proof and legal.

How to Avoid Wasting Precious Time Selling Business Technology

Selling technology is not easy, particularly in this Web2.0-fuelled, open-source aware, web-enabled environment. There is always a competitive product, and sometimes the competition might be available for free.

Sales calls are a wonderful bevy of pleasantries and good intentions. Sales, though, are not won or lost in the sales call itself. No, they are won or lost in the between-times where ‘thinking’ happens in the heads of clients and commercial games develop.

Why is this?

Firstly, clients become indecisive and ambivalent. It’s extremely rare for your product or solution to be unique. When there are competitive products and solutions, indecision becomes a real issue. There is often not much in the difference, except the price on the table. All sorts of strategies are used by clients to make decisions, and on rare occasions they are rational. Most of the time, it’s on price. This creates commercial gamesmanship and you will find yourself used as leverage with other vendors. Rats! Well it happens, and you must be honest with yourself, you do it too.

Also, solutions to business problems become less urgent – very rarely more urgent. The nature of business and people is that workarounds are found so what seems like a done deal can become a more difficult sell if the sale isn’t closed in time. What happens is that the pain becomes more tolerable and then some other more painful issue arises for the client.

The other fact is that the envisaged solution in the minds of the client elaborates over time as they learn about their problem space and furthermore learn about your solution space. What tends to happen in these circumstances is more and more questions appear from the client and they become more about comparisons with competitive solutions. This can be really annoying as you’re essentially helping them learn and, often, painting yourself out of the picture.

What else happens is a withdrawal from well-intended clients who lose confidence in selling the deal internally. I know you know this, but maybe you don’t know that a common problem in clients is that they lack the persuasive skills with their colleagues to gain support and building the case – it often doesn’t even go as far as their manager or CFO. They receive your proposal, which should seal the deal, but their personal relationships with peers can lack credibility to get the rubber stamp.

Business & Technology Crack – Does Business Drives Technology or Technology Drives Business?

Information Technology and the move to a computerized infrastructure model are bringing great changes to many industries. Often it is the CIO of the company who escort this fundamental shift in the business revenue stream. Leading others through modernization, revolutionize and transformation means you must be able to make changes yourself.

Forget about asking whether technology drives business or business drives technology. Stop perturbing about whether or not technology is strategic. Silence all the confusions about how advance this technology is to that technology. In technology, there are numerous questions that if you have to ask, you probably already know and don’t like the answer. A more satisfying line of inquiry is how much of your technological horsepower is actually being used to turn the wheels of innovation.

Some people says that Technology drives business modernization, novelty, success & Innovations that opens up new doors of opportunities, improves the company’s performance on the whole, sharpens the company’s market intelligence, and makes new things possible for the clients. Another school of thought is that the Business Drives Technology, as such integration is about assisting business to facilitate their profitability by utilizing technology and other resources available to the enterprise. But realistically speaking, the driving force comes from the CEO and CIO of the company, who both endeavor to leverage technology to its fullest potential.

In a society that has become entirely dependent on computers and immediate communications, technology is becoming the heartbeat in the process of office design as decisions on layout and services. Some aspects of technology, like the computer animation & communication, are highly visible demonstration devices. But more of it is in the largely unseen infrastructure, with the emphasis on sophisticated wiring and smart communication devices to provide for an ever greater flow, and on communications and power facilities to keep operations running through almost any anticipated calamity.

In the modernization of the today’s businesses, Common business drivers include; Mergers and Acquisitions, Internal Reorganizations, Application and System Consolidation, Inconsistent/Duplicated/Fragmented Data, New Business Strategies, Compliance with Government Regulations, Streamlining Business Processes. To achieve the success in the accommodation of these business drivers, the sturdy and smart input would be required from both the parties i.e. the business as well as the technology.
